In the Bible, intercession is presented as both a general call for all believers and a specific, Spirit-given calling or gift for some individuals. All Christians are urged to pray for one another, for leaders, and for the world. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) However, some feel a profound, consistent, and specific burden to stand in the gap through dedicated prayer, which many interpret as a special calling. (Ezekiel 22:30)
Intercession flows from revelation to routine. It requires death to self, which is why it cannot be assigned casually; it must be called.
Characteristics of an Intercessor's Calling
Those with a specific calling to intercession often exhibit certain traits:
- A deep compassion and love for others.
- A profound sensitivity to the spiritual realm and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
- An ability to bear spiritual burdens for extended periods, sometimes physically feeling the pain or distress of the person or situation they are praying for.
- Persistence in prayer, refusing to give up until God's will is manifest.
- A strong belief that God moves in direct response to their prayers.
The calling of an intercessor is a vital, behind-the-scenes ministry that undergirds the entire church and its mission, partnering with God to see His will accomplished on earth. It is a calling etched into the spirit. It is the labor room of heaven.
You stood in the gap when it was unseen and costly. You carried burdens heaven assigned. You prayed, mercy prevailed and doors shifted. Your prayers mattered more than you will ever know. We honor you and thank God for you.

Dear Fellow Prayer Warrior:
We desperately need your prayers for our debt of roughly $39,000 and that people will call in or go to our web site to donate. We had a tremendous year but we need to end well with no debt entering 2026.
Pray that each person receiving our bi-monthly newsletters, as well as our intercessors, will give a good year-end donation. Remember, all donations are tax deductible.
Thank you for your prayers for our Philippines and WA, DC trips. Both were very successful.
Pray that we will add many new intercessors so we can be more productive for Jesus.
I just received a promise from a donor who will match gifts until the amount reaches $5,000, so please give generously and pray everyone else will do the same!
Blessings, Dr. Jonathan Hansen
